Welcome to our Cruising Blog

In May of 2004 we purchased our first sailboat – a 1972 Tartan 30. Having trucked it to Davenport, Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi we spent several months doing a complete refit. In November of 2004 we splashed our boat, newly renamed Stap Isi (Melanesian Pidgin for “Chill Out.”) and began a journey that would take us across the Gulf and Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, and across the Pacific to Papua New Guinea.
Having arrived in PNG in September of 2006, we resumed our work as Bible translators among several language groups on the north coast of the island. Stap Isi is still our home, office, means of transport, and it gives us the chance to explore the wonderful cruising grounds of Papua New Guinea.
We started this blog in order to make our logs available to those who might be interested in this trip. We also plan to put information on the blog that will be of interest to those planning a cruise through the northern part of PNG.
Fair Winds,
Kyle and Kathy Harris
